9to5 Google reports, “‘Fitbit by Google’ is dead, long live ‘Google Fitbit.’” As someone who uses a Fitbit to ensure I maintain a caloric surplus compared to what’s burned, I have mixed feelings about this. I’m also developing a custom tool for meal planning, but given Google’s history of discontinuing support for devices and making changes that affect developers, this rebranding makes me very nervous.

Google isn’t renowned for data privacy. I own a Fitbit, which requires a Google Account to function, and it’s concerning that my data may not be secure. However, I’ve done my best to obfuscate the data where possible.
